Braided Cinnamon Roll

This week was Thanksgiving here in the United States. Recently, I chopped all my hair to a bob at my chin, BUT most of us women have short hair anyways right? So I plan to show many hair-dos we can do with short hair. HOWEVER, this post is not about us short haired gals but rather, those with long medium-thick-crazy thick hair.

Introducing the Braided Cinnamon Roll!!!

This is my eleven year old niece. She has gorgeous long, super thick wavy hair. This do was Princess Anna inspired :)

Instructions: 

*Please forgive these instruction photos. We didn't realize how good this would turn out until after the fact, thus we didn't take photos of the process. So we decided to take pictures of her taking it out. However, my husband had already left to go home by that point and he took his camera with him...So my cell phone became the means of capturing this. The good photos (like the one above, were taken by him on our actual camera). 

1. Gather all your bobby-pins and one hair tie.

2. Beginning behind one ear, gather three groups of hair and create a Dutch Braid. 

*If you feel more comfortable just doing a regular french braid, then do that instead. I'm sure it'll still look just as awesome.

3. Instead of doing the braid from the top to the bottom of the head, stand at the side of the person and go from ear to nape of neck and braid it down.

Ignore the bun. We aren't to that step yet.

4. The hair that's left, gather the hair in the middle of the head and twist as much as possible.




5. Keeping it as flat/spread out against the scalp as possible (you don't want to create an "old lady librarian" bun) use your other hand pressing against the wrap around as you wrap and pin.

6. Gather the rest of the hair and twist towards the ceiling.

7. Wrap it around the pin.

8. Lastly, wrap that braid around the bun. Pin.

What do you think?!? It's my favorite thing I've ever done to her hair. When it was done my sister (my niece's mother) and my mom immediately started craving cinnamon rolls...For some strange reason ;)

Braiding the Dutch Way: Dutch Braid

I appologize for the unattractive background, we forgot to close the curtain.

It is unbelievable the things that can be done with a braid. And it is even more unbelievable the amount of braids that are out there...IN FACT, most of my blog posts on here will involve some sort of braiding. This week it's the dutch braid.

P.S... Women say, "Oh it's easy. You just braid opposite." That never made sense to me. I had to watch a couple youtube videos on it a few times to finally figure out what in the world they were doing.

Instructions:

1. Gather your three groups of hair just like you would with a typical french braid.

Yes, you are correct in that I'm not wearing make-up. But hey, this is about hair anyways right?!? ;)

2. Pull the middle over the outer. Then pull the new middle to the other outer.

3. Like with a french braid, gather (using your thumb) the next portion of your hair and add it to that outer group on that side. Start at the edge either an inch or a half an inch down.

4. This part is crucial. After you combine that next portion with the outer grouping, DON'T pull that now thicker outer grouping over the middle, but instead pull the middle group over that outer.

5. Continue on the other side.

6. Remember, as you continue this all the way down. MIDDLE OVER OUTER.

7. After going as far down as you like, find any fly-aways. Spray hairspray on your finger tips and smooth it down.

                           

                                        8. Gently tug and pull the beginning chunks outward.

Twisted Twirls

This hair do comes out slightly differently every time I do it. But, it looks cool each one of those times. 

What You'll Need:

-hair brush/comb

-LOTS of pins 

-hair accessory

What To Do:

-Brush/comb out hair.

-Gather just above/in front of ear two groups of hair.

-Overlap the bottom over the top.

-Gather another group of hair and combine it with the new bottom group.

-Overlap and continue.

-I actually needed to keep going a couple more times...but it was fine either way.

-Continue to twist the hair.

-Gently twirl the hair into a spiral. Keep it flat. And PIN AWAY!!!

See all those loose spots? Pin those down!

-Twist on other side.

-Spin and pin behind ear.

 -Search and feel for all loose spots and try to pin those down as inconspicuously as possible.

See that loose loop right behind my ear? PIN THAT!

The softer your hair is when doing this, the harder it is to make it obey. So I sprayed a bit of hair spray on my hair to give it some texture. That works great for me!

Princess Hair

Holloween is just around the corner and what's one of the most beloved characters little girls like to dress up as? A PRINCESS!!! So here is my princess updo that is so enormously versatile.

Items needed:

-Brush/comb

-hair tie

-pins (preferably the color close to your hair ie blonde, light/med brown, dark brown/black)

-hair accessory *optional but cute

Instructions:

-Brush out hair.

-Lightly tease top of hair.

-Smooth out hair.

-Gather two groups of hair at the top corner.

-Overlap the front group over the hind group.

-Gather another section of hair and conjoin it with the bottom group.

-Pull that new and thicker group of hair and overlap it over the top thinner group.

-Continue until you get to your eye.

-Switch hands.

-Continue to gather and twist for a few more times and then clip it to save it for later.

-Do to other side.

-Tie together but don't pull the last loop all the way through.

-Split between the hair.

-Flip pony and pull through.

-Gather all the hair and bring it up.

-Tuck.

-Pin. Pin like crazy!

-Find any spot that needs fixin' and pin that too.

-Pull out/loosen first twists.

-Accessorize!

Yes, it's not perfect. But that's how I often wear it, messy.
